It’s National Plan for Vacation Day!

Updated: Jan 31, 2023

National Plan for Vacation Day is celebrated on the last Tuesday of each January. It’s a day when American folks and families across the nation are encouraged to dream, and to plan their time off for the coming year ahead.

“There is a wealth of information that says simply planning a vacation can increase happiness, with 97% of survey respondents saying that having a trip planned makes them happier.” —U.S. Travel Association

What vacation have you been dreaming of? And what better plan than to live where you vacation?

The Central Coast and Santa Barbara Wine Country are some of the most desirable places to live in California. The area boasts gorgeous oak-studded hills, world-famous (as well as private, undiscovered) beaches along Highway 1, celebrated chefs and restaurants and world renowned vineyards and wineries. There’s also a plethora of outdoor sports and activities: golf, cycling, water sports, off-roading, along with hiking, bird watching and more. The area offers a very high quality of life with a small town attitude.

Santa Maria-style BBQ means beef tri-tip on a traditional crank-down grill. This is historic California cuisine, and a relatively small portion of the Central Coast keeps Santa Maria-style barbecue alive. From San Luis Obispo to Santa Barbara, “barbecueing” means getting a tri-tip cut of beef (a flavorful, triangular cut of beef from the bottom of the sirloin), lighting up a crank-down grill (otherwise known as a Santa Maria-style grill), rubbing the meat with dry spice rub, and slow-cooking it outdoors.
